Our Story

Fountain Hills High School was founded in 1992 and graduated its first seniors in 1994. Prior to the opening of FHHS, students who lived in Fountain Hills attended Westwood High School, then Mountain View High School, and finally Coronado High School. The long drive took a toll on students, especially those involved in extracurricular activities. The new Fountain Hills High School adopted the "Falcon" as its mascot and chose Royal Blue and Silver as the school colors.

Mr. Lenny Allsbrooks, the school's first principal, ushered in a new era for FHUSD. The junior/senior high school served grades 7-12. Through modifications and additions over time, the school separated into Fountain Hills Middle School for grades 7-8 and Fountain Hills High School for grades 9-12. The school grew to approximately 1000 students in the early 2000s, leading to the construction of a new middle school on McDowell Mountain Road in 2002. The school's enrollment declined with the national housing crisis later in the decade and has continued to as the demographics have changed over the past twenty years. In 2024, the high school has approximately 400 students.

Fountain Hills High School has been incredibly successful in its 30-year history. The school has repeatedly earned the highest academic rating from the Arizona Department of Education, including an "A" letter grade in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023, and 2024. FHHS has also been named a US News and World Report "Best" and "National" ranked high school in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023-24. In 2020, the school has also been designated an A+ School of Excellence by the Arizona Education Foundation for excellence and innovation. The school has won 25 AIA team Arizona State Championships, a marching band title in 2018, and several individual state championships, including one in 2024.

About Our School

Our size: FHHS is a small community-based school with the programs and opportunities of a “big city” school.

Our community: We enjoy strong partnerships with our parents and community members. From the Town of Fountain Hills, the Chamber of Commerce, our parents, and our community, our town takes its role in public education seriously.

Individualization: With a smaller student body, our staff members are able to support students’ individual needs in creative and innovative ways.

Our close-knit campus community: Our student body values the familiarity, safety, and collegiality of our small school.

Special education: Exemplary record of inclusion, accommodation, and support for students with unique, special needs.

Crown-jewel programs: All of our courses and activities are excellent at FHHS. However, the following specialty programs earned their place in the spotlight for the high degree of creativity, innovation, and measurable success they demonstrate.
